GREEN INITIATIVES

In an effort to conserve electricity, we turn off our escalators on every non-event day and when there are no second floor events taking place. The chillers are also shut down for eight hours each night and the light bulbs in the ballroom have been switched from compact fluorescent to incandescent bulbs, which require less electricity and produce less heat.

Each month, we recycle tons of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and aluminum materials through the Solid Waste Authority and Southern Waste Systems. In addition, all used batteries and light bulbs are recycled.

Each department at the Palm Beach County Convention Center has made changes to become more eco-friendly. Our Housekeeping department has replaced all of its cleaning chemicals with new products that are better for the environment and they use biodegradable garbage bags. The Sales and Marketing department prints all collateral material on recycled, FSC-certified stock. The food and beverage department utilizes biodegradable service ware whenever possible and follows the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood WATCH list of sustainable seafood choices
The Convention Center has recruited several employees from each department to serve on its "Green Team," a group that oversees all green practices in the building. The Green Team's mission is to educate staff members about "going green" and to implement new eco-friendly initiatives on a regular basis.

Almost every day we seem to hear of yet another problem affecting the environment - from pollution, acid rain and global warming, to the destruction of rainforests and the extinction of thousands of species of animals and plants. We are very worried about the future of our planet and unless we can find ways to solve these problems, our environment will continue to suffer.
Each of us here at the Palm Beach County Convention Center are doing something to reverse the effects on our environment. We know we can't change it alone, but we are hoping to help slow down some of the surrounding damage. We all have a responsibility to our environment, not only for ourselves, but for our friends, family, children and grandchildren. As our population increases and our lifestyles change, we must be conscious of keeping our world in good condition so future generations will have the same natural resources that we have.
